Planning a romantic break in France?

If you're planning to visit France for a romantic break, although Paris maybe uppermost in your mind, there are several other locations which are worthy of consideration before you settle on a destination for your romantic self catering or B&B break in France:

Top Romantic Vacation Spots In France

For romantic vacation spots in France, Paris is often the first place that springs to mind. Without a doubt, this beautiful city is very popular for honeymoons, marriage proposals and romantic celebrations.

And if it's your first trip to France with your loved one, Paris is something that you must experience, at least once. There are lots of  romantic vacation ideas and things to do in Paris, whether you want something luxurious or more low-key.

But don't forget, there are lots of other destinations in France that are wonderful for romantic vacations.

So if you're looking for some fresh ideas, we'll share a few of our favourites here, to help inspire you and plan that perfect romantic getaway with your special someone!

Dordogne

The Dordogne is a beautiful, primarily rural region in southwest France. One of the most romantic vacation spots here is in Brantome, a lovely old village often nicknamed the Venice of Perigord, because of the canals and river surrounding the town.

We love wandering through Brantome and admiring the architecture, browsing through galleries and shops, or simply sitting and relaxing in one of the cafes.

In summer you can go canoeing in the river too, which is always fun.

If you'd like to explore the area and visit some attractions, there's plenty to see here - clifftop castles, medieval villages and prehistoric cave paintings are just a few ideas. You could even venture west to Bordeaux and do some wine tasting.

Riviera

The Riviera is always top of the list when we're planning a romantic getaway - especially when a beach holiday is on the agenda.

The Riviera is known the world over for its beaches - and sometimes it feels like the whole world has come to park their beachtowel on the same patch of sand! So instead, we try and find out where the locals go, and have found quite a few beaches that are relatively uncrowded and actually quite romantic.

Not only that, but we love going for walks around the countryside just inland from the coast. There are lots of 'villages perches' here (perched villages) - ancient and high up on the hills. Eze is one of the most famous of them, but there are plenty of others that are lesser known.

One of our favourite romantic places to stay is a little guesthouse in Mougins, called Les Rosees, near Cannes.

Provence

Provence is another one of our favourite romantic vacation spots. Maybe its the weather, food or stunning countryside that does the trick? Whatever it is, we keep returning again and again.

We just love going for drives, exploring little villages on the way, stopping whenever we feel the moment grabs us for photos or a stroll.

There are lots of hotels in Provence that look like they were made especially for romantic vacations! From chic luxury hotels to charming converted farmhouses, they have the perfect combination of style, coziness and privacy.

Highlights of Provence include the fortified town of Les Baux, officially classed as one of the most beautiful villages in France; as well as Gordes and Roussillon. In summer there are lots of events and music festivals.

One of our most romantic moments here was enjoying a classical music concert in one of the old provencal villages, Roussillon, on a summer evening.

These are just a few romantic vacation spots in france that you could try - there are many more so you will never run out of ideas.

Wishing you a holiday filled with romance in France!
