Mini-guides to the Regions of France
Limousin
|
The Limousin region is the traditional heartland of France. The A20 motorway cuts through the centre of the region and provides excellent links both to the north and Paris, and also south to Toulouse.
The Limousin is one of the lowest populated regions in France, having mostly escaped the march of progress and contains some of the most unspoilt countryside in the country. The region is dotted with stretches of water, and is known as "the land of a thousand lakes".
Limoges, the capital city of the Limousin, is famous for it's porcelain, its towering cathedral, the historic Butchers Quarter and it has history which dates back beyond the Roman era.
Departments of the Limousin are: Haute Vienne, Creuse and Corrèze |
