Family getaway?
Normandy and Brittany offer rustic family-sized
cottages and farmhouses surrounded by rolling
hills and charming villages. The whole country
is a paradise for foodie types – French cheeses
are the stuff of legend, and you`ll find
delicious meals in every price range – from set
meals in rustic village cafes to fine dining in
some of the world`s best restaurants. France is
also a key destination for wine enthusiasts,
being home to some of the world`s best-renowned
wine growing regions, and wine-tasting tours
are an expanding area of tourism in
France.
France is a great
bet for those looking for a budget-friendly
break, as, outside the major cities, the cost
of living is low in comparison with the UK. The
wealth of low-cost flights available between
the UK and France means that it now costs very
little the short hop across the water – flights
from most UK airports to Paris Charles de
Gaulle take less than two hours.
Flights from the
UK serve not just Paris, but also other
tourist-friendly cities, such as Nice and
Toulouse, and rural destinations such as
Berjeracand La Rochelle.
One of the world`s
great cities, Paris is served by no less than
three airports – Charles de Gaulle, the largest
and most central; Orly, the second largest; and
Beauvais. Located around 15 kilometres from
central Paris, Beauvais is the point of entry
for budget airlines. Flights leave for Paris
daily from airports across the UK. The
beautiful city of Toulouse also has good links
with the UK, with regular flights from
Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol as well as
London. The cities of Bordeaux, Lyon and
Marseille are all served by flights from London
airports. Alternatively, connecting shuttle
flights can be taken from Paris. Budget flights
to rural France are offered prinipally by
Irish-owned Ryanair, although Flybe are
increasing their operations in this market.
Perpignan, Nantes, Bergerac and La Rochelle can
now all be easily reached by direct budget
flights from the UK.
With so much to
offer – from the beautiful beaches of the South
to the snow-capped peaks of the Alps and the
chic restaurants and bars of Paris, not to
mention unmissable landmarks such as Paris`
Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame cathedral, France
should be high on any traveller's list of `must
visit` locations. And with so many low-cost
flights available, even the most cash-strapped,
time-pressed of us can afford to discover
France. To start planning your trip, check out
